I cant stand it whenever my student changes his lesson to another day, regardless whether its last-minute or not, simply because it means that more often than not, I have to alter my plans; and on a more practical note, I will get my pay later.
There's this guy who once messaged the night before the lesson to say that he will be tired the following day and thus would not wanna have tuition. I'm really impressed by his clairvoyance skills, perhaps he can pass some vibes to me so I can predict my emotional/physical state in the future. Worse still, the lesson's supposed to start at 12pm. Guess what I did? I tactfully told him that exams are nearing, so skipping lessons is a big no-no and that he should rest early so as to be refreshed for next day's lesson. He obediently obliged haha. And I dun have to push back the lesson by a few hours at all, I still taught as per normal at noon. Its just pure laziness at times.
Another student postponed his lesson yesterday, citing a headache due to the hot weather as a reason. Well I had to settle for that, wouldnt even dare insist on it. But today he tried to postpone again, this time I set my foot down. And so I taught. At times Im really amazed at how cool my students can be, exams start next week and they still do not know much about a certain Maths/Chem/Physics topic, yet they have the cheek to not wanna have lessons. Its such a winning combination of equanimity and ignorance that really amazes me. To just close one eye with nary a thought about the consequences is something that I would never be able to do. Afterall this is something that's quite important isn't it? For issues with little repercussions, I would certainly be laid-back about it.
Eg in NS haha, fond memories of being competent in avoiding arrows and saikang would surface now and then. Chaokeng-ing was one of the best skills I picked up. They teach us about tactical warfare, haha, never did they know that among us soldiers, tactical warfare has taken on a whole new meaning. I continue to marvel at the NS lingo invented. Really, the terms coined are so apt. They manage to convey the undertones that in normal parlance would have never been brought out as well.
And I ran today. Yes, for the first time in about half a year, I ran a proper distance of 3km. When I ran 2.4 km, I looked at my watch: still managed a Silver standard. But my body felt as if I ran a full marathon. My legs hurt very bad, and I can really feel the tremendous throbbing of blood in my head. Needless to say I took a full 15 minutes to cool down. Am quite pleased that could still pull through with a silver, but my stamina and endurance have really dropped. Time to recharge. Looks like I have to swim, run and go gym on a more regular basis...
